Three-time Major champion Padraig Harrington and former Zurich winner Jason Dufner form teams
Harrington teams with fellow Irishman Shane Lowry and Jason Dufner pairs with Pat Perez, ranked 22nd in the world
NEW ORLEANS, LA (April 17, 2018)—Three-time major champion Padraig Harrington will team with fellow Irish golfer Shane Lowry in the 2018 Zurich Classic, announced Steve Worthy, CEO of the Fore!Kids Foundation, producer of the tournament.
Jason Dufner, who won his first PGA TOUR title at the 2012 Zurich Classic and went on to win the 2013 PGA Championship, has teamed with Pat Perez for this year’s tournament, Worthy reported.
“Padraig and Shane add great international flavor, so we are pleased they are attracted to the unique team format of our event,” said Worthy. “And we are always glad to welcome back former champion Jason Dufner, who finished tied for fifth in last year’s tournament,” added Worthy.
Harrington won the 2007 Open Championship, then came back the next year to win both the 2008 Open Championship and the PGA Championship. He also finished tied for fourth in the 2008 Zurich Classic and finished that season eighth in money winnings.
He has won a total of six PGA TOUR titles and 20 international tournaments in his career.
Harrington has established a reputation as one of Europe’s most active team players. He has earned a place on the European Ryder Cup team six times and on the World Cup 11 times consecutively from 1996 through 2006. He also played in four Seve Cup competitions and four Dunhill Cup contests. He represented Ireland in the 2016 Olympics. As an amateur, he played on the winning Walker Cup team against the U.S. in 1985.
He is currently playing the PGA TOUR on a medical exemption after an elbow injury cut short his 2017 season.
His best finishes in the Zurich Classic were a tie for fourth in 2008 and a tie for ninth in 2005.
Harrington’s teammate Shane Lowry started playing a full schedule on the PGA TOUR just three years ago. He won the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in 2015 and has claimed two European Tour titles.
Lowry’s best finish this season was a tie for 4th in the Houston Open. He tied for second in the 2016 U.S. Open and tied for ninth in the 2014 Open Championship.
He has played in two World Cups and one Eurasia Cup. Before turning professional, he won the Irish Amateur Closed Championship and was a member of the winning Irish team in the European Amateur Team Championship in 2007 and 2008.
Dufner has won five times on the PGA TOUR, starting with his 2012 victory in the Zurich Classic. His win here launched him on a torrid streak when he won the Byron Nelson Championship in the next tournament he played, then second in the Crowne Plaza Invitational the following week and a tie for fourth in the U.S. Open the next month. He went on to post four more top-10 finishes that season to place fourth on the money list in 2012.
He won the PGA Championship the next year in 2013. This season, he has posted three top-20 finishes.
He played on the 2013 Presidents Cup team and the 2012 Ryder Cup team.
Perez has won three PGA TOUR titles, including this year’s CIMB Classic. He currently ranks 22nd in the world on the strength of a tie for fourth in the Sentry Tournament of Champions and a tie for fifth in the CJ Cup Nine Bridges to go with his victory at the CIMB Classic.
He came back strong in 2017 from an injury the year before to post a victory at the OHL Classic and earned his first start in the TOUR Championship, when he finished 16th.
He was a member of Arizona State’s 1996 NCAA Championship team and won the 1993 Junior World title over Tiger Woods, who finished fourth.
The Zurich Classic is the only team tournament on the PGA TOUR season. This year’s 72-hole stroke team play format will feature Four-Ball (best ball) during the first and third rounds and Foursomes (alternate shot) during the second and fourth rounds. The starting field will consist of 80 teams. Following the conclusion of the second round, the field will be cut to the low 35 teams and ties. In case of a tie after 72 holes, there will be a sudden-death playoff using Foursomes (alternate shot) for the first extra hole and Four-ball (best ball) for the second extra hole and alternate each hole thereafter.
Already committed to the tournament are: new Masters champion Patrick Reed; FedExCup leader Justin Thomas, ranked second in the world; Jon Rahm, ranked fourth in the world; Sergio Garcia, the 2017 Masters champion; Bubba Watson, who has won twice this season and will be paired with 2016 Olympic bronze medalist Matt Kuchar; 2016 Olympic gold and silver winners Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson playing as a team again and U.S. Ryder Cup captain Jim Furyk.

He missed the fall portion of last season while his wife Jennifer was treated for breast cancer.

ASCENDANT STARS THEEGALA AND ZALATORIS TEAM FOR 2024 ZURICH CLASSIC
Zalatoris returns from major back surgery while Theegala holds top five spot in FedExCup standings
NEW ORLEANS, LA (March 19, 2024)—Sahith Theegala and Will Zalatoris, two of the ascending young stars on the PGA Tour, have teamed to play the 2024 Zurich Classic, announced Steve Worthy, CEO of the Fore!Kids Foundation, producer of the tournament.
“Will has bounced back extremely well after missing nearly a full season from major back surgery,” said Worthy. “Meanwhile, Sahith is building off his first Tour victory last year with three top-10 finishes this season already, ” Worthy added.
Theegala broke through with his first title at the 2023 Fortinet Championship, then followed up with a second at The Sentry in Hawaii to start the 2024 season. He took fifth in the WM Phoenix Open and tied for sixth in the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard. This week he tied for ninth in The Players Championship.
He is currently ranked 14th in the world and fifth in FedExCup standings.
In his first PGA Tour tournament in June 2020, he took 14th in the Safeway Open and secured his card for the 2021-2022 season by finishing sixth in the Korn Ferry Tour Championship. Last year, he teamed with Justin Suh to tie for 23rd in the Zurich Classic.
In the 2021-22 season, his first fulltime on the Tour, he finished 28th in the Tour Championship after five top-10s and 11 top-25s during the year.
Theegala was a three-time All-American at Pepperdine University. His collegiate career was cut short by the 2020 Covid-19 suspension of competition, when his team was ranked first in the U.S. In 2020 he was awarded the Haskins Award, the Ben Hogan Award and the Jack Nicklaus Award, only the fifth college player to win all three in the same year.
Zalatoris burst on the PGA Tour to earn full-time membership for the 2020-21 season on the strength of three top 10 finishes in the majors–a second in his debut at the Masters, a tie for sixth in the U.S. Open and a tie for eighth in the PGA Championship. In 2022, he did even better in the majors with a tie for sixth in the Masters, a tie for second in the U.S. Open and a second in the PGA Championship when he lost a three-hole playoff.
He scored a total of eight top-10s and 14 top-25 finishes in only 25 events in his first season on Tour and ran away with the Arnold Palmer Award for Rookie of the Year honors before he even earned his full-time card.
He followed that brilliant rookie season up with his first victory in 2022 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, but then was forced to withdraw from the following week’s BMW Championship when his back problem first appeared. Before that happened, however, he had posted three runner-up finishes and nine top-10s, including a tie for fourth in the 2022 Zurich Classic, when he teamed with Davis Riley.
He was forced to withdraw before the first round of the 2023 Masters when he suffered a herniated disc in his back. He was ranked eighth in the world at the time. He lost the rest of the entire 2023 season and started this year ranked 43rd.
Now back and healthy on Tour, he tied for second in The Genesis Invitational and tied for fourth in the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He has now climbed to 30th in the world ranking and 13th in FedExCup points. He ranked as high as eighth in the world when he was forced to miss most of 2023 and fell to 54th by the time he returned.
As an amateur, he won the 2014 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship. In college, he played for Wake Forest on the Arnold Palmer scholarship and was named first-team All-American and ACC Player of the Year in 2017. He made the Walker Cup team that year and contributed to a 19-7 U.S. win over the Europeans by going 3-1 in his matches. That American team included Collin Morikawa, Cameron Champ, Doug Ghim and Maverick McNealy, all of whom compete on the PGA Tour today.

He has played in only one other PGA Tour event, last year’s Valspar Championship that was won by Sam Burns, who will be playing in the Zurich Classic with Billy Horschel.

Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele will defend their Title at 2023 Zurich Classic of New Orleans
Cantlay is ranked 4th in the world; Schauffele is 7th
NEW ORLEANS, LA (March 20, 2023)—Patrick Cantlay, the 2021 FedExCup winner currently ranked fourth in the world, will pair with 2020 Olympic gold medal winner Xander Schauffele, ranked seventh, to defend their 2022 Zurich Classic title, announced Steve Worthy, CEO of the Fore!Kids Foundation, producer of the tournament.
“Patrick and Xander are two of the best players in the world and both are playing at the top of their games right now,” said Worthy. “They’ve partnered successfully at both the 2019 and the 2022 Presidents Cups and the 2021 Ryder Cup, so we expect them to be a formidable team here again in 2023,” Worthy added.
In the 2022 President Cup competition, both Cantlay and Schauffele posted 3-1 records for the winning American team. In the 2021 Ryder Cup, they won both matches when they were teamed together. Cantlay went undefeated in team play that year, halved his singles match and tied Colllin Morikawa for second most points scored by an American player. Schauffele was 3-1 himself, losing only his singles match on Sunday.
The pair won last year’s Zurich Classic by two strokes over the team of Billy Horschel and LSU’s Sam Burns. Cantlay and Schauffele led after all four rounds of last year’s tournament. They posted a tournament record first-round score of 59 in four-ball (alternate shot) to set the pace and went into the last day of play five strokes ahead of the field.
Cantlay won the FedExCup in 2021 and earned the Jack Nicklaus Award as PGA TOUR Player of the Year on the strength of taking four titles in 2020-21: the ZOZO Championship, the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide, BMW Championship and the TOUR Championship.

In January, Cantlay was named one of five Player Directors on the prestigious Player Advisory Council that advises and consults with the PGA Tour policy board and commissioner Jay Monahan on issues affecting the Tour.
So far this season, his best finishes have been a tie for second at the Shriners Children’s Open and a third in the Genesis Invitational.
Cantlay started on the Tour full time in 2017 after missing all of 2016 and nearly all of 2015 with lingering back issues. He earned his Tour card in 2017 when he made the cut in all 13 starts to fulfill his Major Medical Extension. Since going full time on the Tour, he was won eight titles in only six full seasons.
As an amateur, he posted a second-round 60 to take the lead in the Travelers Championship. His 60 was the first score that low by an amateur in PGA Tour history.
His storied amateur career was highlighted by being named winner of the Fred Haskins Award in 2011 as the nation’s top collegiate player as well as the Jack Nicklaus Award as the Division I Player of the Year. He also won the Mark H. McCormack Medal in 2011 as the top-ranked amateur in the world.
He earned a spot on the U.S. Walker Cup team in 2011 and went 2-1-1 in his four matches. He played collegiately for UCLA, where he earned All-American honors as a freshman and was named PAC-10 Golfer of the Year. Prior to college, he won the 2010 California High School State Championship. Cantlay was the number one amateur in the world before turning pro, holding the top spot for a record 55 weeks.
Schauffele has won seven times since joining the PGA Tour full time in 2017. He won the TOUR Championship his rookie year in 2017 and has since finished no worse than a tie for seventh in the season-ending tournament. He was the first rookie in the FedExCup era to win the TOUR Championship.
