Regional Foundation Generates $30 Million Economic and $18 Million Charitable Impact to Southeast Louisiana
Baton Rouge, LA (February 11, 2009) –The Fore!Kids Foundation announced today that Baton Rouge will host its first-ever Zurich Classic PGA TOUR Pro-Am tournament on April 22, 2009, at the University Club. In addition to being a noted expansion for the Zurich Classic itself, this event will mark the first time in more than 40 years that PGA TOUR Pros will play in Baton Rouge. The PGA TOUR members playing in The Cox Greater Louisiana Pro-Am of Baton Rouge will be from the field of the Zurich Classic which will begin the following day, Thursday, April 23 in New Orleans.
"The Zurich Classic is a regional event and has always enjoyed great support from the Baton Rouge market," remarked Jay Little, chairman of the 2009 Zurich Classic. "We're thrilled to bring this event to the home course of the many Fore!Kids Foundation members and Zurich Classic sponsors and supporters in the Baton Rouge area."
The Zurich Classic has had a $30 million economic impact in Louisiana—a success made possible by its many supporters throughout Southeast Louisiana including Baton Rouge, New Orleans, the Northshore, Cutoff and Lafayette.
"The Baton Rouge area has been extremely supportive of the tournament and instrumental in accomplishing our mission of improving children's lives through health, education and social welfare in the local community," said Tommy Fonseca, president of the Fore!Kids Foundation. "Zurich and The Fore!Kids Foundation would like to thank our title sponsor for the Pro-Am, Cox Greater Louisiana and their leader, Jacqui Vines. Their partnership in this event is invaluable as we raise money for local Baton Rouge children's charities."
"We take pride in being the catalyst for bringing innovative projects and products to our local communities," said Jacqui Vines, senior vice president and general manager for Cox Greater Louisiana. "Partnering with Zurich and the Fore!Kids Foundation was an easy decision since they already have a track record of supporting children's charities in the Baton Rouge area. We trust that this new venture will lead to more wonderful results for this region."
The University Club golf course, voted one of the "Top Ten Golf Courses in Louisiana" by Golf Digest Magazine in 2003, has an extensive history of hosting tournaments and noteworthy Pro-Am events in the past.
