Zurich Financial Services to sponsor PGA Tour's New Orleans event Zurich Classic of New Orleans

Zurich Classic Moves to Tournament Players Club of Louisiana in 2005.

New Orleans, LA ( October 8, 2004 ) — The PGA TOUR, Fore!Kids Foundation and Zurich Financial Services (Zurich) jointly announced today a four-year agreement whereby Zurich will sponsor New Orleans’ annual TOUR event beginning in 2005.

The newly named Zurich Classic of New Orleans is scheduled for April 25-May 1, 2005, at the Tournament Players Club of Louisiana, which opened in April.

This marks the first time that the Swiss-based, leading Global insurance Group has sponsored a sporting event in the United States.

"Zurich is thrilled to be part of the tradition, excitement and good works that make the Zurich Classic of New Orleans a premier PGA TOUR event,” said Craig Fundum, Chief Marketing Officer for Zurich in North America. "There is no better place than New Orleans to host our U.S. and global business partners and clients. When you add to this the important work that the Fore!Kids Foundation does for children in the region, which mirrors our corporate principle of giving back to communities, you can see why this event was such a positive fit for Zurich.”

"We are extremely pleased to make this important announcement today, which assures the continued growth and charitable impact of the Classic,” said Henry Hughes, Chief of Operations for the PGA TOUR. "We’re excited that Zurich has identified the PGA TOUR as the ideal vehicle by which to grow its brand in the U.S. And in the Fore!Kids Foundation, it is aligning with an organization that has done a tremendous job of supporting children’s charities throughout the New Orleans area.”

The Fore!Kids Foundation, host organization for the tournament, had been seeking a new title sponsor since early this year.

"We are very excited about working with our new partner, Zurich, as well as our new host site, the TPC of Louisiana,” said tournament director John Subers. "We know that having Zurich’s global corporate presence and a brand new state-of-the-art facility will continue to enhance the prestige our tournament enjoys, and will allow us to resume our mission of helping children’s charities in the region.”

New Orleans has played host to a PGA TOUR tournament since 1938, when the Greater New Orleans Open Invitational was introduced at City Park Golf Club. The tournament was not held from 1949-1957, then resumed at City Park before moving to Lakewood Country Club in 1963 and then to English Turn Golf & Country Club in 1989. This year’s tournament, won by Vijay Singh, was the last held at English Turn. It now relocates to the TPC of Louisiana and a golf course designed by Pete Dye, with input from player consultants Steve Elkington and Kelly Gibson.
